Bias in Algorithms

This last unit has presented a troubling reality in the faults of our algorithms and how they can erode at our quality of life, through their own faults. Everything from our justice system, to our educational upbringings, is now greatly affected by these algorithms. The most troubling part is that these very same algorithms are in many respects far more fallible than even humans. What surprised me most about the materials presented was that these algorithms are both so trusted and so concealed from the public eyes it almost seems criminal. Before this week's materials I too was very unconcerned with the role of biased algorithms in our society, and now moving forward I shall remember to be far less trusting of them.
